Essential Skills & Experience

  • Excellent Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders from C-suite down, both off the cuff and in more formal presentations or report writing.

  • Business Savvy: Able to look behind the technical problems and understand the business drivers to change, prioritising accordingly. A proven track record of spearheading successful projects.

  • DevOps Mastery: Deep understanding of DevOps principles and how they transform businesses.

  • AWS Expertise: Extensive hands-on experience with AWS and ability to articulate best practices for building secure, scalable platforms.

  • Architectural Know-How: Ability to design and implement cloud platforms supporting microservices and containerised workloads.

  • CI/CD Pro: Proven experience with tools like GitHub, GitLab, or AWS DevOps Tooling, and expertise in deployment automation/orchestration.

  • Networking Knowledge: Familiarity with Virtual Networks, DNS, Gateways, Load Balancers and more.

  • Security Expert: Understanding of IAM, WAF, and KMS. Experience implementing best practices for securing data, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. Bonus points for experience with a compliance framework (ISO27001, PCI-DSS).

  • Infrastructure-as-Code: Mastery of Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK or equivalent tools.

  • Scripting & Automation: Skills in a scripting language like Python, Ansible, Bash, Groovy, Powershell, or similar. Bonus points if you share your GitHub repo!

Other Nice To Haves

  • Azure or Google Cloud Experience: Ability to compare and contrast cloud offerings, especially in a migration scenario.

  • People Leadership: Experience managing people, or a desire to move your career in this direction.

  • AWS Professional Certification: If you don’t already have one, you’ll be given time to attain this in your first 3 months.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior DevOps Engineer at The Scale Factory, you’ll:

  • Deliver high-impact DevOps, Cloud, and Platform Engineering projects for our growing client base.

  • Perform in-depth discovery activities with clients, translating non-technical business requirements into technical solutions.

  • Lead workstreams, defining and prioritising work, managing risks, and delegating work to junior colleagues.

  • Communicate effectively, both internally and externally with colleagues, clients and third parties to drive growth.

  • Stay ahead of the curve by keeping up with emerging trends and certifications.

  • Consistently exceed expectations, solving complex challenges with ingenuity and innovation.
